Trethaway VI | TRETHAWAY BROS. VI BRASS AND COPPER LID - Unfired brass lamp with copper lid and twisted wire bumper, marked TRETHAWAY BROS., PARSONS, PA, beautiful lamp (note inside dated 3/25/62 stating purchased from Anna Vebrosky, Frackville, PA for $3.50 - I wish!); ex-Dave Lewis collection (The Trethaway Bros. of Parsons, PA produced more varieties of wick lamps than any other manufacturer; in 1894, Richard Trethaway formed a partnership with his brothers William, Joseph, John and Charles to manufacture tin and metalware products including wick lamps; Richard served as president of the firm located in Parsons which in 1927 was absorbed by the city of Wilkes-Barre; the firm grew steadily and by 1912, employed nearly 500 employees; Trethaway not only produced a wide variety of wick lamps in tin, brass, copper and mixed metal combinations but also produced lamps under the labels of UMWA, Richards, Tracy Wells, L.C.N. Co., Lennon, P.F. Lennon, Sanner Hardware Co., O'Keefe Patent, Alex E. Hunt and Bluefield Hardware; in 1918, a fire destroyed the firm's building and stock and Trethaway Bros. closed its business; see Johnson, Mining Artifact Collector #12, pp 30-32) | Original Image |
